History
-
Robert Grosvenor, 1st Baron Ebury planned to
extend the Watford and Rickmansworth Railway {W&RR} 8 miles from Rickmansworth
(Church Street) to meet the Great Western Railway's {GWR} at Uxbridge (Vine
Street) on the Uxbridge branch to provide a route from the West Coast Main Line
at Watford Junction to London Paddington via Uxbridge and West Drayton. The GWR
offered to put up £20,000 towards the project and in 1863, Parliamentary
authorisation was obtained to construct the extension. The GWR later withdrew
its offer of funding and the scheme foundered. Lord Ebury's ambition to link
Watford and Uxbridge was never realised, and the W&RR remained a short branch
line. In Edwardian days the GWR used part of the route for a branch from
GWR/Great Central Railway joint line, now the Chiltern Main Line, to Uxbridge
High Street station.
Layouts - assume the Baron was successful, W&RR built, and
survived into the late 1990s. Four stations are modelled north to south Batchworth, West Hyde, Harefield , and Newyears Green. Like the Greenford Loop
the passenger service is operated by 'Bubble Cars'. Emphasis is on freight with
Class 09s hauling local and 20s through freight.
