The Twrch is a tributary of the Tawe [Swansea] River and lies on the boarder between the Brecon Beacons and the 'Valleys' [industrial South Wales].
The valley is a natural route between Swansea & Beacon and has an interesting industrial history [see Industrial archaeology of Cwm Twrch by Dilys Powell].
The first of four layout related to the valley Cwm Twrch.
Coal heritage is shown by Hennllys Vale Colliery and the Coal Cleaner. General traffic is handled by the goods yard.
 Cwm Twrch is not a block post so is unsignalled with points operated by point leavers
unlocked by a key on the train staff with the loop for shunting and wagon storage.

At the screen waste is removed from the coal which is then divided into lump and the less valuable small coal.
The lump coal chute is at the front of the screen and the small coal chute is at the back.
Output is 7 parts lump to 1 part small.
