MID-FLINTSHIRE LIGHT RAILWAY

There were many proposals to build railways onto the Halkyn Plateau to serve the mines and quarries after 1900 to save money promoters wanted to use the Light Railway Acts. A group planned to build a 10 miles long railway from Hollywell to Pen-yr-Orsedd via Milwr, Bryn y Mawr, Halkyn, Pant-y-gof and Rhosesmor. The First World intervened the plan was put on hold and before work could restart it was realised that developments in motor transport had destroyed the plans viability. History has been twisted with the line coming to fruition, becoming part of the London Midland and Scottish Railway in 1923, and regaining its independence in the early 1960’s. The Mid-Flintshire Light Railway would have been built on the limestone Halykyn Plateau and this is reflected in the local industries [limestone quarries] and traffic on the railway.

The layout can exhibited with late 1930’s London Midland and Scottish Railway or early 1970’s stock a combination of light and heritage railway.
